Are you looking for a pediatric chiropractor?

Chiropractors treat patients of all ages. We welcome babies from birth. Chiropractic is a safe and effective form of treatment for children. The treatment consists of adapted examinations and light and pain-free techniques for all ages.

How to recognise problems with your baby?

The complaints of a baby are not as clear as in an adult. The characteristics are often very diverse and do not always express themselves directly in pain in the affected area. Examples of this are:
  • crying inconsolably
  • preferred positioning, overstretching and a flat head
  • not wanting to lie on their back
  • restlessness and trouble sleeping
  • excessive vomiting
  • problems with breast latching and breast release

As children get older, the problems manifest themselves in different ways, such as: abdominal pain, headache, poor sleep and irritation. If you recognize any of these issues in your baby, it is a good idea to consult your chiropractor.

What does the chiropractor do?

After an in-depth history taking and physical examination, the chiropractor first determines whether chiropractic treatment is indicated or if it is necessary to refer your child. We often see the following complaints in practice:
  • Preferred positioning, overstretching, flattened head
  • HCFS (KISS syndrome)
  • Breastfeeding problems
  • Crying inconsolably
  • Motor problems (e.g. frequent tripping)
  • Scoliosis
  • Headache
  • Bad sleeping patterns
  • Back and neck Pain

What does the treatment look like?

The treatment consists of adapted gentle and light pressure techniques performed by the fingertips. Because this technique is very light and specific, it can be applied to babies from all ages. Babies often recover faster than adults, so fewer treatments are often sufficient to relieve the baby’s complaints.

In addition, we work closely with the postural therapist who can help your child with a correct posture for an even better result.

How do your baby's symptoms develop?

Childbirth

Spinal abnormalities can already develop during pregnancy. The baby is forced to assume a certain position in the womb, which puts stress on the spine.

Childbirth may also cause problems that affect the spine. The breech position can lead to a lot of stress and on the other hand, a prolonged delivery with prolonged contractions also put a lot of pressure on the head. A vacuum or forceps delivery, induced or a very fast delivery can all result in spinal issues.

The growing phase

From crawling to walking and playing sports, your child’s spine experiences a lot of physical stress over the years. Practice makes perfect, so falls and accidents are unfortunately unavoidable. Fortunately, the body can handle a lot of impact, it will continue to compromise under load, but most likely that will lead to complaints. Think about a motion restriction after a fall, heavy backpacks, gaming and poor posture at school.

During the growth spurt, your child’s body and more importantly the spines are fully developing, so it is important to correct these complaints at an early stage, so that your child can continue to develop optimally.
